2001-04-22: Graduation - Oh, I Forgot!
It's sad but true people. I forgot my own graduation until the day before (Friday, 2001-04-20). This is totally embarrassing and remarkably stupid on my part. Because of this breach in the memory retention centers of my brain, it was too late for my Family to organise to attend. Thus, all they get are some photos. It's a bit sad and I'm angry at myself that they couldn't be there. It wasn't a complete loss though, I managed to get a group photo of my entire graduating year - all seven of us! Yes, Engineering Degrees in Software Engineering are going to be somewhat rare, at least for a little while yet.
After the ceremony, I went to play Battletech with my friends. There wasn't any major parties for the graduation (the major was Software Engineering, the minor of the course was in Apathy), though I think this Friday coming ought to be good. Well if you've ever played mechwarrior or mech commander, Battletech is the grandaddy of it all: a board game with volumes of rules and fantastically painted metal mech figures (you should paint them yourself).
It couln't have been a freakier match. My friend Jason got a salvo to the head (instant death) about the 4th turn by Veronica. Meanwhile, I was hammering shells and lasers into her and so was Brian. Next to die was yours truly with Another head shot. Brian kept shooting Veronica and her mech was almost torn to pieces: Not before she shot Brian TWICE IN THE HEAD! At the end of the game I had a look at her sheet. Basically, all that was left was a couple of guns, some chicken wire and some gaffer tape in a form sort-of like a mech, but with one important feature: a Head!
As for the page, no music updates this week, though I have added the latest book I have read to the Books page. It's called Pawn of Prophecy, by David Eddings.
As of today, I've also started back with reading research papers. I've popped a little more info on the Dev page about what will go on there in times to come.
have fun!
